Souffle Shenanigans

March 30, 2026

Since my first watching of Hell’s Kitchen, I loved it. Their souffles being made looked so delicious, I decided to take a stab at making one.

From a dessert book I received as a gift, I tried making an orange souffle with orange cream.

I followed the recipe exactly. However, the bowl I used was too big. The souffle looked more like a crepe after baking.

The souffle tasted good, albeit not superb.

My next attempt at souffle involved chocolate. I followed the recipe exactly. Instead of a big bowl, I used four separate souffle dishes.

As I mixed in the ingredients, everything seemed to be going great.

The chocolate souffles turned out great in appearance. While they tasted good at the top, the bottom part had a meaty taste.

One of the steps stated to pour the beaten egg whites into the souffle dishes before pouring in the batter. Since the egg whites weren’t stirred into the batter, they ended up being the bottom meaty layers of the souffles.

This experience showed me that despite following instructions exactly, the outcome may not be as desired.
